Classes 7(2) and 7(6) [Also in Group XXIX] In a gas or dual fuel I.C. engine the gaseous fuel and air are introduced into a mixing chamber 6a ahead of each cylinder 1 and enter into the cylinder through a common inlet valve 3 and the air inlet throttling member 40 is controlled by a servomotor in accordance with the speed of the engine and in accordance with the pressure in the air manifold ahead of the mixing chambers. The speed governor 37 controls two levers 35, 36 which are connected through linkages to the shafts 31, 32. The shafts 31, 32 carry levers 29, 30 respectively, which actuate racks 23, 28 to control the angular position of pistons 20 of gas admission valve actuation pump 15 and fuel injection pump 16, respectively. The shafts 31, 32 have levers 41, 42 connected by links to levers 43, 44 which are connected to a lever 45 connected in turn to a floating lever 46 one end of which actuates the pilot valve 47 of a spring loaded piston motor 51 which actuates the throttle member 40 in the air inlet. The pressure downstream of the member 40 is fed via a pipe 57 to act on a bellows member 52 which acts on the other end of the floating lever 46 to re-centre the pilot valve 47. A spring washer 53 closes the bellows member 52 and in order to alter the datum setting the washer is adjustable by hand or by means responsive to atmospheric pressure and ambient temperature. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown) the levers 43, 44 are replaced by cam members so shaped as to give a desired characteristic of response. The engine may be operated simultaneously on gas and liquid fuel or on a Diesel cycle when the supply of control fluid 64 is cut off to servopiston 51 which is forced by spring 65 into the top position thus turning throttle 40 to the fully open position.
