922,447. Cleaning spinning-machines. PARKS-CRAMER CO. Oct. 23, 1961 [Oct. 26, 1960], No. 37846/61. Class 120 (3). Travelling suction cleaning apparatus for textile machines comprises a blower having at least one inlet through which lint and dust are transferred to a normally closed collection chamber. When the chamber is opened for the discharge of accumulated lint &c. therefrom by the air stream directed therethrough by the blower, a normally closed auxiliary air inlet in the chamber also opens in order to increase the volume of air passing through the chamber. The cleaner 10 shown in Fig. 1 comprises a suction casing 11, communicating with ducts 14, 16, tubes 18 and nozzles 20, and a blower casing 12 housing an air impeller 13 and communicating through an outlet 22 with a collection chamber 24. The casings and chamber are supported and the impeller driven by an electric motor serving as a self-propelled carriage 26 with rollers or wheels 28 riding on tracks 30, 32. The chamber is closed by a hinged, foraminous door 38 and a pivoted auxiliary door 118 sealing an inlet opening 124. Both doors automatically open, and a shield 40 may be positioned to obstruct a filter 39, when the end of the chamber is opposite a waste receptacle 41. In the operation of a mechanism for opening and closing the doors, Figs. 1, 2 and 3, engagement of an abutment arm e.g. 86, with an adjustable, retractable trip finger 92, as the cleaner is travelling in the direction of the arrows, rotates a starwheel 72 one quarter of a revolution to the position shown and thereby moves the high point of an elliptical cam 64 from engagement with follower rollers 60 and allows a spring 52 to expand and shift a rod 48 to rotate a bell crank 46 and cause a link 42 to open door 38. The rotation of cam 64 also moves followers 103 to swing an arm 104 about pivot 105 and pull on cables 112 to open door 118 against the constraint of springs, Fig. 4 (not shown). As the cleaner continues its movement, an abutment arm 74 engages a trip finger 90 and causes rotation of cam 64 through one quarter turn so that it exerts control on followers 60 and releases followers 103 to close the doors. In the operation of another mechanism, Fig. 5, a follower 126 engages a cam 125 and pivots a lever 127 to move a link 132 which operates a crank arm 134 to rotate a shaft 136. A crank arm on shaft 136 moves link 142 against the action of springs, Fig. 6 (not shown), to open door 38 and another crank arm 144 moves a link 146 to open spring- loaded door 118. Disengagement of cam 125 and follower 126 allows the springs to rotate shaft 136 and close the doors. Specification 852,763 is referred to.
