A new or improved protector for the cutting edge of a tapping knife for rubber trees

A protector for the cutting edge of the portion 10 of a knife 11 for tapping rubber trees comprises a cover 6, the base of which is provided with a tapered aperture 8 in which is located a U-shaped shield 9 to receive the knife portion 10, the cover being secured in position on the knife by means of a pivoted lid 16. The shield has a turned-down portion 12 abutting against the base of the cover. The inner faces of the shield are provided with a resilient member or members 13 to grip the knife portion 10. The upper edge of the shield has an extension 14 adapted to be located in one of a plurality of notches 15 formed on the upper edge of one of the sides 7 of the cover. The lid 16 is provided with resilient members 20 which abut against the knife 11 when the lid is secured in position by means of a pivoted catch 17 engaging open-ended slots 18 on the cover. The base of the cover at each of a number of points has a plurality of recesses 21, one of which at each of the points is adapted to receive a removable pin 22 provided with an extension 23 to prevent movement of the knife in the cover.
