PICT:0828877/IV (a)/1 PICT:0828877/IV (a)/2 PICT:0828877/IV (a)/3 A spinneret is composed of tungsten carbide powder with from 1-20% (based on the total weight of the composition) of a powder of one or more platinum group metals (defined as Pt, Pd, Rh, Ru, Ir and Os), in the form of a sintered compact. Preferred compositions include that containing 5% of platinum, and that containing 15% of platinum. Fig. 1 illustrates a disc-type, and 11 in Fig. 3 a cup-type, spinneret. Orifices in either type may be of the form shown in Fig. 2. Such spinnerets are especially suitable for melt-spinning.
