In a slip joint connection for dental handpieces, a tool-holding connection member has spaced from one side a hinge part to which it is pivotally connected by an arm pivoted on an elbowed extension of a swivel part mounted on the connection member at the side remote from the hinge part, the arm extending over or transversely of the rear of the connection member. As shown, Fig. 1, a connection member 1 comprises a pulley 3 adapted to be rotated by a drive cord and a swivel part 6 with an extension 7 carrying a pivot 8. An eye 10 at the end of an arm 9 bears on the pivot 8, movement therebetween being limited to about 240 degrees by the engagement of a pin 11 on the extension 7 with stops 12 at the ends of a groove in the eye 10. The other end 13 of the arm 9 is pivoted at 15 on a hinge part 5 which carries a pair of guide pulleys 4 for the drive cord. A nose 16 on the end 13 is adapted to abut a stop 17 on the hinge part. Also pivoted on the hinge part is a coupling member 18 for the engine rods (not shown) with a nose 20 adapted to abut a stop 21.
