In an arrangement for converting a number from one radix to another, an electric signal is generated representing each digit in the first radix without having regard to the order of the digit, a code signal in the second radix is generated in respect of each digit having regard to the order of each digit and said code signals are combined to provide the original number in the second radix. As applied to a differential analyser, such as that described in Specifications 948, 760 and 949, 196, a decimal number to be applied to the Y register is entered on the first level I 1 of a matrix 1. The resistors K connecting the level to the vertical conductors 10SP0/SP-10SPM/SP are inversely proportional to the digits corresponding to these orders. Clock pulses C1 connect the vertical conductors one-by-one to a summing amplifier 3 and converter 4. Thus at the first step the units digit is set up in 4 and applied in binary digital form to coincidence circuit 8. At the same time clock pulses C2 are applied to a counter R3 which completes a cycle in the time of one C1 clock pulse. At the end of each cycle a pulse is applied to counter 6. When the converter 4 and counter 6 are in agreement, i.e. after the units digit has been counted out, coincidence circuit 8 operates to inhibit gates G3, G4. Meanwhile a single rectifier connection between Bo and Do in matrix 5 has permitted the transmission of the binary equivalent of decimal unity to serial adder 7 a number of times equal to the units digit. The cycle then repeats in respect of the tens digit with appropriate rectifier connections in matrix 5 giving the appropriate weighting. When the complete number has been transferred an elementary integration takes place in the manner described in the abovementioned Specifications. Reference is also made to Specification 679,725.
