Compositions containing n-propargyl benzylamines for inhibiting monoamine oxidase andtreating hypertension

A composition for inhibiting the action of monoamine oxidase and lowering blood pressure in warm blooded animals which comprises N-propargyl benzylamine, N-methyl-N-propargylbenzylamine or N-propargyl a -phenylethylamine, or a non-toxic acid addition salt thereof as active ingredient together with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The compositions may be used orally or parenterally in the form of tablets, powders, capsules, solutions or suspensions. Suitable salts are the hydrochloride, hydrobromide, sulphate, phosphate, picrate, succinate, citrate, tartrate, fumarate, oxalate, benzoate, salicylate, glycolate, nicotinate, ascorbate, maleate and lactate.
