A crane girder for a travelling gantry adapted to be aligned and interlocked with a second girder has a separate terminal section provided with an inclined inner end face which cooperates with a correspondingly inclined endface on the crane girder in such a manner that relative sliding movement of the terminal section out of alignment with the second girder causes the crane girder length to be reduced. In the arrangement shown an end member 1, movable between a pair of plates 4 and 5, Fig. 2 (not shown), attached to the sides of a traversable girder 2, is normally held in the chain dotted position by a pin 8 engaging a slot 1d in the member 1 and fixed to one end of levers 9, 10 rotatable by a shaft 11. The shaft 11 is rotated, when the girder 2 is aligned with an adjacent girder, to lower the member 1 down an inclined surface 3 until a step 3a stops further downward movement. At the same time trolley stop bolts 12 are raised by pins 13 to the inoperative position and the girders are interlocked.
