In a nuclear power plant radio-active material released in the event of a rupture in the reactor coolant circuit is directed into and confined by a gas-holder. A single gas-holder is connected to several reactors which are peripherally disposed round it. The passage connecting each reactor with the gas-holder is blocked by a membrane which fractures only when the pressure on the reactor sides is higher than in the gas-holder so as to prevent the entry of radioactive material into one reactor from another having a fractured coolant circuit. The gasholder may contain a water-lock through which the radio-active material must pass or a watercooled condenser is mounted in the entrance duct to the gas-holder, both arrangements serving to collect some of the radio-active products and so reducing the size of the gasholder required.
