摘要
1,029,864. Woodworking. R. SAUTER. March 16, 1964 [March 18, 1963; April 27, 1963], No. 11112/64. Heading B5L. A method of continuously producing timbers or building components of similar material comprises feeding workpieces to a milling station where they are clamped and milled in such a manner that the end of a preceding and the beginning of a succeeding workpiece are machined simultaneously, one of the workpieces being mounted at such a height relative to the other that the profiles produced fit into one another without rotation or turning of the workpieces, gluing and pressing the workpieces together to form a continuous length, and dividing the length into desired lengths by means of a saw. The workpieces are fed by a conveyer 1, Fig. 2 (not shown), to a milling station where adjacent workpieces are clamped in spaced-apart relation by vertically and horizontally-acting cylinders 4, 5 while a carriage 3 having a rotating tool 3a is traversed across the workpieces by an hydraulic cylinder 2, the carriage remaining on the other side of the workpiece passage until the next workpieces are clamped whereupon it returns to its first side to machine those workpieces. After machining by the tool 3a, which forms teeth in the ends of the workpieces, one of which is clamped at a different height to the other, the workpieces are released and fed to a gluing station 8a and a press 9 having a horizontallyacting cylinder which presses the workpieces together end-to-end. Thereafter, the continuous length is fed against a stop 9c and cut to length by a saw 9a. The clamping of the workpiece at the milling station is effected by pneumatic and hydraulic cylinders after the workpieces have been positioned, the leading workpiece being advanced by conveyers through the milling station and reversed against a stop which actuates valves controlling its associated horizontal and vertical clamping cylinder, and the following workpieces similarly abutting a stop actuating a valve controlling its horizontal and vertical clamping cylinders. The rotating tool forms teeth-like profiles on the ends of the workpieces and comprises a shaft 101, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), having end plates 102, 103 between which, and on bolts 105, are cutters 107 spaced apart by shims 106. A pair of planing cutters 109 are also disposed between the end plates 102, 103, each cutter having an extension 112 formed with a slot 113 engaged by a bolt 114 whereby the cutters are angularly adjustable.
