Conversely as a container is slid off the platform pi onto a vehicle which is always at a lower level it will tip, allowing the planks tc to rise and the control means to cause the platform pi to lower. When a considerable gap is to be bridged as between two rail tracks the platform pi can be extended from the bogie towards the vehicle in which position it is supported from the ground as by further wheels. The edges of the platform po may be sprung and the platform pi may be combined with stabilizing and shock-absorbing devices as disclosed in Specification 940,898.
