Means for coupling a cop-tube to a spinning &c. spindle comprises radial cavities in the spindle or a member carried thereby, an element in each cavity radially movable under centrifugal force and an annular elastic member closing the cavities and retaining the elements, whereby, when the spindle is rotated, the elastic member is urged into contact with the cop-tube. As shown, the cavities are in a member 1 connected to the spindle by a pin 6 press-fitted into a bore 7. The movable elements are balls 6 and the elastic member a rubber sleeve 9, which, when inoperative, may be flat as shown or curved in section and which is accommodated in a recess 8 which may have lugs for retaining the balls. The sleeve may have inwardly directed lugs fitting into recesses in the member 1 to stop it rotating relatively to the spindle, and it may be in sections held by spring-clips.
