989,260. Turbine and compressor rotor blade shrouding. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 5, 1963 [Nov. 21, 1962], No. 44055/62. Heading FIT. A rotor blade row in a turbine or an axialflow compressor has shrouding comprising separate shrouding members each secured to the outer end of one only of the blades and co-operating with the adjacent shrouding members, each shrouding member being, as viewed in a radially inwards direction, substantially rhomboidal in shape with two parallel sides extending in line with parallel sides of the adjacent shrouding members. A steam turbine rotor blade shroud comprises circumferentially adjacent rhomboidal shaped members 7, Fig. 2, each of which is secured to the tip of only one of the blades 5 by a rivet 11 passing through flanges 9, Fig. 3. The radially outer face of each member 7 has a ridge 13 extending along the longer diagonal of the rhomboid. In modifications Figs. 4 ,5 respectively (not shown), the member 7 is attached to the blade 5 by a rivet 11 radially outwards of the main part of the member, or by a socket engaging a shaped blade tip. In further modifications, Figs. 6, 7 respectively (not shown), sealing flanges are provided on each member 7 or on the turbine casing.
