A safety closure for a screw top bottle comprises an outer annular member 5 with a flange 6 which engages between the bottom of a screw cap 12 and a collar 10 on the neck of the bottle. The member 5, which may be of resilient plastics material, is freely rotatable about the cap 12 and prevents the normal gripping of the cap and its removal by an infant. The cap is knurled at 12a to improve contact with the user's palm. Radial ribs 15 on the member 5 keep the screw cap 12 and member 5 in contact.
