[Also in Division H3] In the apparatus described and claimed in the parent Specification, the dielectric tuning rod lies wholly within the resonant length and the feeder sections of the waveguide. As shown, Fig. 1, the rod 10 of rectangular cross-section slides along the feeder waveguides 9 and projects through a diaphragm 8 into a resonant length of waveguide 7, two lugs 11 projecting through a slot 12 cut in the waveguide 9 serving to support the rod in the waveguide. In a suitable adjusting mechanism, Fig. 4, the lugs are connected to a rider mechanism 16 which has two spring-loaded ball-bearings adapted to clamp the rider to the waveguide 9 whilst permitting a smooth longitudinal movement of the rider. A mounting arrangement 19 supports the waveguide 9 and the barrel 18 of a micrometer screw, the head 20 of the micrometer screw controlling the position of the rider 16.
