Monoazo dyes of formulae FORM:0988046/C4-C5/1 wherein A1 is chlorine or bromine, A2 and A3 are hydrogen, chlorine or bromine (A2 or A3 being hydrogen), X is chlorine hydrogen, methyl or ethyl, Y1 is a hydrogen or a C1-C6 alkyl, acetoxy, propionyloxy or cyano group, Y2 is an acetoxy, propionyloxy, methoxycarbonyl, ethoxycarbonyl or cyano group, Z1 is chlorine or bromine or a trifluoromethyl or cyano group and Z2 is hydrogen or, when Z1 is cyano, hydrogen, chlorine or bromine, are used in dyestuff compositions (see Division D1). In Example (1) 2,6-dichloro-4-nitroaniline is diazolized and coupled with N-cyanoethyl-N-hydroxyethyl aniline and the resultant dye acetylated with acetic anhydride. Many dyes of the above formulae are listed. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 813,906, 852,396, 855,488 and 872,481.ALSO:Dyestuff compositions used in dyeing polyester and cellulose acetate fibres in brown shades comprise dyes of formulae FORM:0988046/D1-D2/1 wherein A1 or chlorine or bromine, A2 and A3 are hydrogen, chlorine or bromine (A2 or A3 being hydrogen), X is methyl, ethyl, chlorine or hydrogen, Y1 is hydrogen or a C1-C6 alkyl acetoxy, propionyloxy or nitrile group, Y2 is an acetoxy, propionyloxy, methoxycarbonyl, ethoxycarbonyl or nitrile group, Z1 is chlorine or bromine or a trifluoromethyl or nitrile group, Z2 is hydrogen or, when Z1 is nitrile, hydrogen, chlorine or bromine, R1 and R2 are independently hydrogen or a C1-C6 alkyl radical and W is chlorine or bromine or an alkoxy, hydroxyaryl or alkoxyaryl radical. The compositions may contain dispersing agents. In examples the mixture of dyes is (1) ground with sodium dinaphthylmethane disulphonate sodium cetylsulphate and sodium sulphate; (2) ground with water and sulphitecellulose waste powder and the paste jet dried; (3) pasted with turkey red oil and water; (4) ground with sodium dinaphthylmethane disulphonate and water to form a colloidal solution which is mixed with the addition product of 2 mols of ethylene oxide and 1 mol of butanol and carboxymethylcellulose to form a printing paste; (99) pasted with sodium dinaphthyl methane disulphonate, butyl carbitol, crystal gum and water; (100) used together with sodium dinaphthylmethane disulphonate and sodium alginate in an aqueous padding liquor.
