In an apparatus for squaring folded box blanks, the blanks B are received on a suction conveyer 34 and beneath a belt 138 carried at one end on a spring-loaded reel supported on a carriage 73 movable longitudinally of the conveyer by rack-and-pinion mechanism operated by a handle 118 for positioning the carriage in dependence on the length of the blank to be squared. The carriage carries a pusher (181, Fig. 5), which is thrust forward against the trailing edge of the blank by piston-rod 165 to push the leading edge of the blank against an alignment member (223, Fig. 9) carried on a shaft 219 which is rotatable to move the alignment member out of the path of the blank after operation of the pusher member. A driven roller 231 carried on a mounting which is adjustable vertically is vertically movable by an air actuator (252, Fig. 3) and co-operates with the roller 221 to maintain the juxtaposed flaps F1, F2 of the blank in their squared position and discharge the blank on to the following conveyer 61 which leads to a taping machine. The edges of the blank are guided between adjustable side guides 48, 52, and the various operations of the machine after setting up are controlled by micro-switches. Micro-switches also stop the operation of the machine if for example one blank on top of another attempts to enter the squaring apparatus.
