A solid ethylene polymer or telomer is stabilized against heat or light deterioration by incorporating therein a sulphur-containing polymer which contains at least five recurring units of one of the following units (a) (-R1OR1-S), (b) (-R1OR2OR1S-), or (c) FORM:0834291/IV (a)/1 wherein R1 and R2 are the same or different alkylene groups containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms. A pigment, e.g. cadmium yellow or red, or a dyestuff, may also be incorporated in the polymer with the sulphur-containing polymer. The sulphur-containing polymer may comprise units of mercaptoethyl-hydroxyethyl formal, thiotriethylene glycol ether, or 1-mercapto-propanediol-2,3, and these polymers may be prepared by reacting sodium sulphide with dichlorodiethyl ether, or beta, beta1-dichlorodiethyl formal, or a beta, beta1-dichlorodiethyl ether of ethylene glycol.
