887,954. Cooling nuclear reactors; nuclear power plant. UNITED STATES ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION: Oct. 5, 1959 [Oct. 6, 1958], No. 33663/59. Class 39(4) In a nuclear reactor having an inner wall 24 and a special outer wall 22, coolant gas enters through conduit 18 into the space between the two walls, flows through the reactor core 14 where it is heated, and then leaves the reactor through inner concentric conduit 20 to steam generator 16. By this means thermal stresses are reduced at the connection between the reactor and the hot gas conduit 20, and cool gas in conduit 18 provides heat insulation for the conduit 20. As shown, hot helium flows to an inner container 28 of the steam generator, then to a circulator 10, and back via an outer portion of the generator. The conduit 20 is made in telescoping sections and spaced from the conduit 18 by spiders 19. U-bends may be provided in the two conduits to allow for expansion.
