A retractable storage structure for aircraft or other articles, particularly when on the deck of a ship, comprises a fixed section 1 attached to a firm base and sections 2-6 movable on rails extending therefrom. The rails can be of various cross-sections and are engaged by wheels fixed to the base of each section. Each section may be formed of metal or alloy frame members covered by metal or other plates and may be of any desired cross-section. Alternatively, each section may be formed of a basic frame made of a filler material such as a honeycomb of metal or plastic covered if required by a metal or plastic skin. The structure may be extended or retracted by a suitably driven and controlled winch 28 employing cables 29, 30 passing to the outermost section 6 and suitably attached thereto. Alternatively, driving means may cooperate with the tracks and may be attached to the section 6. Stays are provided so that the various sections extend or retract in turn. Flexible sealing strips are provided to form a seal between the sections and between each section and the base or rails. An end closure or door is provided for the section 6 comprising rods 36, Fig. 7, to which a flexible curtain 37 of waterproof material is attached. The closure can be raised or lowered by cables 38 passing over pulleys 39. The closure has a sealing strip at its base. The structure may be provided with heating means and with portholes in each section.
