In the production of lamp bulbs, filaments are fed upwards by vibrating bowl 1 till they are positioned at position A within arm 9. From position A they are released by rotary reciprocation of the arm to fall down shoot 20 in which they are retained by arm 26. From shoot 20, a filament is released by rotation of arm 26 to fall down shoot 21 and be retained by arm 27. From shoot 21 the filament is released into shoot 22 by rotation of the arm 27. The filament is released from shoot 22 by the pivoting of arm 28 to allow it to fall on to arm 45 which pivots clockwise about 47 to drop the filament on to a tooth of wheel 2 for discharge thereby. In this way reserve filaments are provided. The rotation of arms 26, 27 and 28 are governed by solenoids 29, 30 and 31 which are included in an electric circuit such that a filament is always ready and available to be discharged by the arm 28.
