An artificial tooth crown or bridge tooth comprises a basic metal frame consisting of a ring 1 which fits around the natural tooth stump, side walls 2 and an occlusive bar 3, a filling body 11 being disposed within the frame. The filling body provides the labial and buccal faces of the tooth. Grooves 16 around the buccal and labial edges of the frame and inwardly projecting prongs 4 serve to secure the filling body and to support the frame on the stump. A frame without a ring may be disposed between two tooth crowns to form a bridge. The frame may be cast from a model of synthetic plastic or wax, the model being formed in the patients' mouth or using prefabricated parts.
