Improvements relating to travelling wave linear accelerators

In a linear accelerator the waveguide comprises an array of apertured discs 4 held in place by a flanged ring members 1 which are relatively located by spigots and held together under the pressure of springs 7 when the envelope casing 8 is clamped at 11 to the end block 2. In alternative embodiments the helical springs 7 are replaced by disc springs or by having a section of the envelope casing of resilient bellows form. The discs 4 and ring members 1 may be replaced by integral cupshaped members. The upper discs of the accelerator shown are resistive or the residual R.F. power may be abstracted through a feeder similar to the input feeder 3 at the lower end of the structure. Cooling pipes 6 and 13 are shown and 14 is an outer casing.
