A machine for gathering root crops, which have been dug and are lying on the ground, comprises an open frame 1 provided with a bench 34 which extends obliquely across it and provides seating means for operators, who can bend forward during advance of the machine and pick up crops through the open frame, for placement on a conveyer 18 running be neath the bench. The frame is pentagonal and incorporates additional cross-members 4, 8 which carry the bench and provide foot rests 27 for the operators. The machine is drawn by a tractor, through a towbar 6, the tractor providing drive for the conveyer 18 via a gearbox 21 and clutch 23 an endless elevator 28 is connected to the delivery end of the conveyer 18 and is driven by it through gearing 30. Crops fall through a shoot 31 on to a final-delivery elevator 32 which discharges into a vehicle alongside, this elevator being supported by hydraulic jacks 33. The rear of the frame is carried by wheels 9 mounted on pivoted levers 11, the other ends of which are connected to hydraulic shock-absorbers 14.
