Improvements to ammunition fuzes incorporating piezoelectric generators

A piezo-electric projectile fuze comprises a crystal 3 housed behind a piston 5 to which thrust is imparted by a piston 4 through a ball 6. Piston 4 is mounted in a slidable cylinder 2 and is cushioned against the pressure waves set up during motion and impact of the projectile by a pad 1 of elastic material, e.g. rubber, the initial volume of the pad being less than that of the space ahead of piston 4. Thus during the initial movement of the cylinder 2, the pad 1 is uncompressed, compression only beginning when the volume of the space is reduced to that of the pad and the thrust is communicated to piston 5 when the limit of compressibility of the pad is passed.
