Improvements in and relating to the production of esters of cinchophen

Diesters of general formula CH2OR.CHOR.CH2OR1 wherein R is the acyl residue of cinchophen and R1 is a substituted phenyl radical derived from guaiacol, thymol, carvacol, mesitol, chavicol, anol, eugenol or isoeugenol are produced by heating a dry mixture of cinchophen and a glyceryl ether of formula CH2OH.CHOH.CH2OR1 wherein R1 has the above meaning, preferably in the ratio of from 2 : 1 to 1 : 2, at 200-250 DEG C. under a vacuum of 15-25 mm. Hg and crystallising the product from an organic solvent, preferably dioxan or dioxan/ethanol.
