In an omnibus having a gear-box 16 at the front of an engine 15 mounted longitudinally behind the rear axle 18, the gear-box output is in the form of a hollow shaft (Fig. 3, not shown) extending coaxially with the gear-box input shaft from that end of the gear-box 16 adjacent the engine 15 and is connected by transmission gearing 17 extending laterally from between the engine and gear-box to a telescopic propeller shaft 19 driving differential gearing 22 on the axle 18: The gearing 17 comprises a coplanar train of spur gears which are exchangeable to provide for variation of the drive ratio between gear-box and axle.
