1,035,139. Drawers. J. F. HOJLUND. Oct. 2, 1964, No. 40174/64. Heading A4B. [Also in Division B6] A filing cabinet with shallow drawers for filing large sheets, such as drawings, wherein the drawers can be pulled out and pivoted into an obliquely inclined position, is characterized by the provision of a sheet-holding means 24 for each drawer 19 which is of about the same length as the drawer, is pivoted on an axis 23 at the outer end of the drawer, and can be swung away therefrom to a predetermined extent to form a support for the sheets. As shown, the holding means 24 is a grid-like frame to each side of which is pivoted, at 30, a short link 29 which is pivoted at 27 to one end of a longer link 25 pivoted to the inside of the drawer. In the open position, the two links 25, 29 are aligned, and a foot 26 abuts the cabinet to hold the drawer 19 in the inclined position. A lower pulled-out drawer 19 can also serve to support the fully exposed upper drawer. In the closed position, the links 25, 29 fold together and lie within the drawer beside the frame 24. The cabinet comprises a top and two sides, and frame uprights 3, 4, 5 arranged inside the side portions have a number of opposed guides 9 secured thereon. Each guide 9 has an open-ended slot 10 previded with a front hook 11, and a projection 12 opposite a depression 13. Each drawer 19 is of traylike construction with front handles 16 and has rear lateral pins supporting rollers which run in the slots 10. The projections 12 and depressions 13 form a temporary stop for the drawer in a partly pulled-out position, and the hooks 11 pivotally support a drawer in the fully exposed position. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), each drawer has a pair of opposed pivot pins 31 at the sides and centrally positioned, the pins resting in open bearings on rails 33 which are slidable within further rails 34, and the latter are also slidable within a third set of rails 35 secured to the inner sides of the cabinet. The drawer, when pulled out fully, can be pivoted to an oblique position about its pivot pins, but is normally held in the horizontal position by a snap fastener 36.
