An excavator boom is formed by two stayed, cross braced, convergent girders joined at the outer end. Each girder consists of a rigid beam along which struts are secured at spaced intervals, at right angles thereto, and in a vertical plane. The struts of a girder are braced by a tensioned wire extending between the ends of the beam and the outer ends of the struts, whilst further tensioned wires extend diagonally between the struts. A latticework of struts and tensioned wires is secured between the beams to extend therebetween in the plane thereof. Also struts and tensioned wires extend between the lower ends of transversely paired struts and between said lower ends and the opposed beam respectively.
