Enteric coated oral vaccines for intestinal infections

Oral vaccines, for intestinal infections, are enterically coated dragees, being twice glazed with a mixture of food stearin and hydrogenated fat so that they will reach the small intestine before disintegrating they are prepared by coating sugar pellets with powdered sugar, grading them according to size, applying vaccine and a further sugar coat and polishing with a wax/fat composition, wherein at some stage after applying the vaccine, preferably after the second sugar coating, they are twice glazed with the said stearin/fat mixture. The preferred enteric coating is 70 to 75% by weight food stearin to 30 to 25% by weight of hydrogenated fat, suitably applied at 60 to 70 DEG C., to constitute 12 to 16% of the total weight of the dragee.
