In a lowstrung bridge the tension member comprises the chord members spaced by triangulation members and having a substantial height in relation to the height of the arch, the lower chord member being the decking and formed of watertight boxes enabling the bay to be floated into position. Each bay is assembled largely from prestressed concrete components on a flat area on shore and is subsequently floated into position over piers constructed from prestressed concrete rings and prestressed blocks. The bays are supported on lenticular concrete bearings and rubber pads to allow end movement during erection and are raised to final height by alternate gangs of jacks. The arch sections are assembled on a moving erecting tower having a water-filled tank to balance the weight of the sections through cables.
