1,117,401. Welding cable terminations and terminals. W. A. TOTO. 23 July, 1965 [23 April, 1965], No. 31414/65. Heading H2E. Near to the end connectors of a kickless welding cable, such as is described in Specification 1,117,402, the central positive cable ropes 38 are supported by a nylon bearing 39 which has helical flutes to correspond with the lay of the ropes. The positive ropes are pressed in a pre-formed connector sleeve 24 so that their ends assume an approximately semi-cylindrical form 23 which is secured by stainless steel bolts 25 and by silver-soldering to an extension 21 of a block 11a to which a positive terminal 11, Fig. 1 (not shown), is bolted. The outer negative cable ropes 32 are pressed in a connector sleeve 26 formed with helical flutes and bolted to an extension 22 of a negative terminal 12 separated from the block 11a by an insulating sheet 16. The terminals 11, 12 may be built up of laminations of copper strips. The central ropes are arranged around a perforated resilient tube 41 containing a brass spring 40 and are surrounded by a resilient sheath 37. A nylon sleeve 36 is placed around the connectors 24, 26, inside the outer rubber sheath, to stiffen it. Coolant entering through ports 19 in the block 11a is distributed through metering passages between the extension 21 and 22 (a) through a passage 43 drilled in the connector 24 into the tube 41 and (b) around the connector 26 into the negative rope space surrounding the sheath 37.
