A device for loading a receptacle 23 with radioactive pellets 26 comprises a base 1 carrying by means of a spindle 4 a centring member 6 of generally cylindrical shape. A screw 8 remotely driven by an arm 10 is threaded in the member 6 and has an end 12 extendible through a passage 17 provided in a support 13. The support 13 is normally locked to the member 6 by a flat-sided pin 18 rotatable by a lever 21. In use the member 6 is initially displaced through 180 degrees about the spindle 4 from the position shown in Fig. 2 so that the screw end 12 points upwards (Fig. 1, not shown) and the screw 8 is advanced so that the end 12 is flush with a conical entry 22 to the passage 17. At this stage the receptacle 23 and its holding member 24 are not in position. A pellet 26 is placed by a tongs on the end 12, the screw is advanced a distance equal to the thickness of the pellet and another pellet is placed in position, this procedure being repeated until the passage 17 is filled with pellets. The receptacle 23 is now located in the entry 22 and retained by the member 24 secured by a bayonet lock 25. The screw 8 is operated to push the pellets 26 into the receptacle and the member 6 is rotated to the Fig. 2 position whereupon the member 24 may be removed.
