[Also in Division G2] A comparator for a camera has an output lever 5 whose position is related to inputs proportional to film sensitivity exposure time and iris opening, so that the position of the output lever may be compared with the indicator needle of an exposure meter. As shown, the lever 5 is sprung against and movable by one of five balls in a zig-zag formation in a channel 1 and movable therein by a lever 4 coupled via a cam 9 to the shutter exposure time setting, a cam 10 and follower plate 7b coupled to the iris setting, and a lever 11 and follower plate 7a controlled by a film sensitivity setting. The housing 1 is mounted on a plate 12, Fig. 3, whereon shutter plates 31 are pivoted. Pins 36 on extensions 35 of a ring 33 drivingly engage slots 38 in the plates 31 and the ring 33 is oscillated through one cycle by a triggered over-centre linkage 39-41 tensioned by a spring 40. The shutter exposure time is adjusted by a pin 43, connecting links 39, 41, abutting a stop 49 on a retarding gear sector. 46 meshing a pinion 47 fast with a restricting wheel 45. The position of the stop 49 is determined by the cam 9 abutting a lug 51 on the gear sector 46 and moving the lever 4 of the comparator. The comparator, instead of having five balls, may have two balls or wedges movable perpendicularly to two movable wedges and one stationary wedge, Figs. 5 or 6 (not shown), a wedge movable in two directions perpendicular to two movable wedges, Fig. 4 (not shown), or a triangular cross-section wedge movable perpendicularly to two side wedges.
