Apparatus in which articles such as cigarette filter tips 11 are fed progressively into containers 6, 7 moving beneath the filling position and in which a member 9 for supporting the inflowing articles is reciprocable in a fixed path to enter the containers during filling, has means to incline the containers as they enter the filling position to cause the angle of the member 9 relative to the leading wall on entry to be different from that relative to that wall on withdrawal. The member 9 thus remains close to the container leading wall during its descent. Articles are fed by a conveyer 10 on to a plate 12 reciprocable horizontally to shut off feed during replacement of the filled container. The inclination of the containers may be achieved by a curved track 5, conveyer flights 2 operating through a slot to advance the containers. Alternatively, means not described may tilt the containers.
