[Also in Division H5] The firing chamber of a vacuum kiln comprises an evacuated bell 6 containing a heating coil 11 and enclosed by a rectangular housing 3 containing insulating material 4 and forming a preheating and drying chamber 12 which is heated only by heat loss from the firing chamber. Ceramic dental products 10, to be fired, are carried by a plate 7 on a stem 8 which can be raised and lowered to provide access. The plate 7 forms a seal with bell 6 and stem 8 is hollow and connects the bell to a vacuum pump.
