The invention comprises compounds having the formula FORM:1049026/C2/1 in which R is hydrogen, halogen or alkyl and a process for the manufacture thereof in which the corresponding 17-ester is hydrolysed, preferably with an alkaline hydrolysing agent, and the resulting free 17a -hydroxyl compound is isolated.
