Digital electrical calculating apparatus for multiplying decimal non-decadic data such as sterling by specified digits comprises an input unit 1 connected by two alternatively switched paths to a store 3, one path being a direct transmission path and the other containing a decimal non-decadic to decimal decadic conversion unit, data in units such as pounds being transmitted in the direct line and the other data being converted to a decimal, and the decimal value being rounded off to two figures. The store 3 is connected by two alternatively switched paths to a calculation mechanism 6. One path is a direct transmission path, the other contains a unit 4 multiplying by a correction unit. The correction unit serves to correct for the error produced in rounding off the decimal and is found by factorizing the number expressing the relation between the highest and lowest units of the decimal non- decadic code, i.e. 240 for sterling, taking a factor other than 2 or 5 and using as the correction unit a multiple of this factor. For sterling 240 = 3 x 24 x 5 thus 3 or 6 is preferably used. The number is multiplied in unit 4 and rounded off in its last place and stored in unit 5. The complete number is multiplied by the specified digits in unit 6 and stored in unit 7 and then fed to unit 8 where it is divided by the correction factor, then the whole number portion is fed directly to the output unit 10 and the decimal portion fed to unit 9 which converts back to the decimal non-decadic system and thence is fed to the output. The switches may be manuallyoperated and the conversion means may have the decimal equivalent of each value of the non-decadic denomination stored therein.
