A rocket-hydrophone buoy unit for sonar echoes discrimination and submarine detection

A and B (not shown), is separated from a carrier rocket (1) by a charge ignited by a time fuze (2). A spring (7) then ejects a nose (4) and the buoy falls separately from an accompanying depth charge (6). The descent of the buoy is checked by erected vanes (10) or a parachute. Upon impact with the water a compartment is flooded and a hydrophone sinks on a cable (16). The buoy includes a sea-water battery (17) for a transmitter including an audio-frequency amplifier with automatic gain control, an oscillator frequency modulator followed by two duplicating stages and, if desired, a final separator stage feeding a quarter wave antenna (8).
