Improvements in or relating to combating plant growth and new cyclotriphosphazatriene derivatives therefor

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula FORM:1063704/C2/1 in which R represents an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical containing from 1 to 8 carbon atoms. The specified products include pentachloroethylamino - cyclotriphosphazatriene, penta-chloro - n - propylcyclotriphosphazatriene, pentachloro - isopropylamino - cyclotriphosphazatriene, pentachloro - n - butylaminocyclotriphosphazatriene and pentachloro - 2 - ethylhexyl - cyclotriphosphazatriene. They are prepared by reacting hexachlorocyclotriphosphazatriene with a primary aliphatic amine having a hydrocarbon radical containing from 1 to 8 carbon atoms at a reduced temperature or at about room temperature. The reaction may be effected in the presence of a solvent. The products have phytotoxic activity (see Division A5).ALSO:A composition for combating undesirable plant growth comprises as an active ingredient a pentachloroalkyl - aminocyclotryphosphaza - triene of the general formula: FORM:1063704/A5-A6/1 where R represents an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical containing from 1 to 8 carbon atoms (see Division C2). The active ingredient may be mixed, dissolved or dispersed in a solid or liquid carrier. Suitable solid or liquid carriers include chalk, dolomite, kaolin, pipe clay, attapulgite; toluene, xylene; aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic ketones or mixtures thereof with hydrocarbons, and if desired surface active compounds. They may also be mixed with fertilizers. The compositions may be applied to the plants or soil by spraying them in the form of dispersions produced by mixing wettable powders or miscible oils with water or by dusting. Examples are given where the active ingredient is mixed with (a) kieselguhr, (b) oleylamidomethyltaurate, calcium lignin sulphate and chalk, (c) miscible oils, ionic or non-ionic emulsifiers and an organic solvent or (d) polyoxyethylene sorbitan fatty acid ester, acetone and methyl ethyl ketone.
