In a power plant comprising gas and steam turbines 7, 17, driving separate electric generators, the gas turbine is supplied from a tank 6 with light oil, such as naphtha, whilst the burner of the boiler 9 is fed with heavy oil from tank 10, the light and heavy oil fractions being obtained by the distillation of crude petroleum. The gas turbine 7 drives an air compressor 4 part of the output of which is supplied to the combustion chamber 5 for the turbine 7 whilst the remainder is fed directly to the turbine 7 to lower the temperature of the gases therein. The exhaust gases from the gas turbine form part of the combustion gas for the boiler 9 of the steam turbine. A fan 2 feeds air to the compressor 4 and a portion of the air passes through a heater 12 to the boiler 9. The heavy oil from tank 10 is heated in a heater 11.
