In a self-advancing roof support system (Fig. 2) for inclined long wall faces, wherein long bar prop frames A alternate with short bar prop frames B, each frame A being connected to the adjacent frame B by a diagonal ram cylinder 1, and a packing wall in sections 2 being attached to the frames, the connected frames are combined as walking pairs by links 3 and the pairs are also combined into groups by links A4 between frames A and links B4 between a like number of frames B, the groups of frames A being interconnected to connecting cylinders A5 and the groups of frames B by hauling means B5, a telescopic connection 6 being between the adjacent first and last pairs of frames in adjacent groups the sections 2 being hingeably attached to the frame A of an uppermost pair, the free ends thereof bearing against the next lower section 2. The hauling means B5 may be replaced by cylinders A5. The sections 2 are divided into two panels 21, 22 (Fig. 4), each panel 22 being hinged to a pack side prop 10 at two points 12 with a curved edge parallel to the prop, and each panel 21 being so hinged at one point 12 and having a corresponding curved edge sliding in the curved edge of the panel 22. An extension 23 is detachably fixed to the top of the panel 22, against which the bottom part of the panel 21 slides on extending the prop 10. Each prop 10 at the pack end of each long bar frame has a special panel-support member which is extendable in the direction of the seam thickness and prevents the panels from shifting under pack pressure on advancing the frames. The sections 2 have sealing lips 24, 25 at the roof and at the floor, respectively.
