In order to keep rolls of bread 3 (Fig. 2) fresh they are packaged between a top wrapper which is pervious to water vapour and a bottom wrapper made of paper with a suction time of less than twenty seconds with an area weight of about fifty gram per square metre, and the two wrappers are stuck together around the edges. The sheet of paper may be crimped to give it a greater surface area per metre, and the top sheet may be of transparent plastics sheeting. The two sheets may be joined together by means of heat sealable adhesive 4, the corners 1of the package being unsecured to enable the two sheets to be pulled apart to open the package.
