1,078,432. Radio direction-finders. MARCONI CO. Ltd. Feb. 23, 1965 [May 13, 1964], No. 20007/64. Addition to 944,861. Heading H4D. [Also in Division H1] A radio goniometer of the type described in the parent Specification 944,861 comprises a rotor (IR), Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) provided with two similar windings (W1,), (W2) substantially at right angles to one another. Each winding has two winding parts, one of which is wound on one side of the rotor axis and the other on the other side thereof. In a directionfinder incorporating the goniometer, a twinpath receiver is used, the windings (W1) and (W2) being connected respectively to the input terminals of separate amplifiers (C1), (C2), Fig. 5 (not shown), which supply the rectangular co-ordinate deflection systems of a cathoderay tube through further amplifiers (IF1) and (IF2). The stator half windings (1), (1SP1/SP), (2), (2SP1/SP), (3), (3SP1/SP), (4), (4SP1/SP), Fig. 1 (not shown), may be connected to a common point, Fig. 5 (not shown), and by means of ganged switches (S1), (S2) the voltage to earth may be applied through a 90 degrees phase shifter (PS) and an amplifier (PSA) to the control grid of the cathode-ray tube to allow sense determination. In a modification (Fig. 6, not shown) the stator half windings are joined in pairs, each junction being connected to a contact (RS1-4) of a respective relay (RL1-4). The relays are caused to operate by a selector switch (CS) coupled to the goniometer shaft, so that only the output from the stator half windings connected to the pair of aerials whose common plane is most nearly perpendicular to the incoming signal direction is made available for sense determination.
