METHOD OF PRODUCING COMPOSITE STIFFENING MEMBERS FOR COLLARS

Composite collar stiffeners are made by first securing a stiffening strip 14 to backing material 12 and then blanking out stiffeners by means of cutting dies 40. As shown in Fig. 1, the pre-assembled workpiece is blanked first along lines 22.1, 24.1, fed in the direction of arrow 44 and then blanked along lines 22.2, 24.2, variation in the rate of feed producing variation in the length of stiffener. An alternative form of cutting die is shown in Fig. 5.
