摘要
A composition comprises a major portion of halogenated butyl rubber combined (in latex or cement form) with a phenolic compound, e.g. resorcinol, and an aldehyde, e.g. formaldehyde, with a molar ratio (of phenolic compound to aldehyde) between 1.5:1 and 5:1. In a coating process, a solution containing a halogenated butyl rubber is emulsified with an aqueous solution containing an alkali metal alkyl sulphate in which the alkyl group contains 10-20 carbon atoms, e.g. sodium lauryl sulphate; the copolymer solvent and most of the water is removed; the water-soluble phenolic compound and aldehyde are added; the pH value is adjusted to 8.2-8.6; the cords are dipped in the resultant mixture; the coated cords are dried for 1-10 minutes at a temperature of 300-425 DEG F.ALSO:Tyre cords e.g. of rayon, nylon, polyethylene terephthalate, are coated with a layer comprising a major portion of halogenated butyl rubber combined (in latex or cement form) with a phenolic compound e.g. resorcinol, and an aldehyde e.g. formaldehyde, with a molar ratio (of phenolic compound to aldehyde) between 1.5 : 1 and 5 : 1. In a coating process, a solution containing a halogenated rubbery copolymer composed of 85-99.5 wt. per cent of a monoolefin having 4-8 carbon atoms e.g. isobutylene, and 15-0.5 wt. per cent of a multiolefin having 4-10 carbon atoms e.g. isoprene, is emulsified with an aqueous solution containing an emulsifier selected from the group consisting of the sodium, potassium and ammonium salts of an alkyl sulphate in which the alkyl group contains 10-20 carbon atoms e.g. sodium lauryl sulphate; the copolymer solvent and most of the water is removed; the water-soluble phenolic compound and aldehyde are added; the pH value is adjusted to 8.2-8.6; the cords are dipped in the resultant mixture; the coated cords are dried for 1-10 minutes at a temperature of 300-425 DEG F.
