Improved process for the secondary recovery of the crude oil

A process of secondary recovery of oil from a partially depleted formation comprises the following steps: injecting water through an injection well into the formation after terminating production and after the formation pressure has increased producing from the formation through a production well in the absence of fluid being injected or produced through the injection well. The pressure gradient in the formation is allowed to stabilize prior to the injection and prior to production. The injection increases the pressure in the formation to approximately the original pressure of the formation, but the increased pressure is maintained below the fracturing pressure. The process may be repeated when the pressure in the formation is sufficiently reduced.
