[Also in Division G1] The control and switching arrangement for mechanically or hydraulically driven traversing devices in spinning, winding and ring twisting machines claimed in claim 1 of 1,064,162 is modified in that two or more impulse generators are provided. By using more than one impulse generator different impulse rates may be produced so that the rate of changing the positions of the reversing switches may be changed for different stages of the build, e.g. during stroke reduction and during stroke increase. As shown a disc 44 preferably rotated at a constant speed has projections 50, 50SP1/SP which interrupt beams of light passing from sources 42, 42SP1/SP to photocells 43, 43SP1/SP respectively, so that different impulse rates are emitted from the cells. A switching arrangement is provided such that impulses from only one cell at a time are amplified to control the speed of the reversing switches. The arrangement for switching from one cell to the other may be operated by switches which are operated by the movement of the reversing switches. The impulse generators 41, 41SP1/SP are mounted on a slide to be radially movable of disc 44 by a rotatable wedge 54 so that the impulse rate can be adjusted. In a further form the generators may be spaced, but at the same distance from the centre of a common disc and be adjustable parallel to or tangentially of the circumference of the disc. Photo-electric and electromagnetic impulse generators may be used together.
