Hair growth promoting aerosol and shampoo compositions contain (3-carbomethoxypropyl) trimethyl ammonium chloride. Typical examples described the preparation of an aerosol composition by dissolving (3-carbomethoxypropyl) trimethyl ammonium chloride, propylene glycol, and perfume in 50% ethanol followed by filling it in a pressure sprayer together with dichlorodifluoromethane, and the preparation of a shampoo by dissolving sesquioleic acid sorbitan and lanolin in polysorbate 80 to which an aqueous solution containing (3-carbomethoxypropyl) trimethyl ammonium chloride and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose is added. The shampoo compositions may contain polyoxyethylene nonyl phenol or an alkanolamide and lanolin. A cream and oil are also described containing a non-ionic polyoxyethylene type detergent.ALSO:3 - Carbomethoxypropyl - trimethyl - ammonium chloride is prepared by reacting trimethylamine with methyl g -chlorobutyrate.ALSO:Hair growth compositions contain, as the active ingredient, (3-carbomethoxypropyl) trimethyl ammonium chloride. Other nutrients, e.g. vitamins, amino acids and hormones, may be present. The compositions can be applied in the form of lotions, cold creams, vanishing creams, pomades, hair oils, aerosols or shampoos.
