A two-row beet-harvester employs two beet-lifting units 3 feeding to a common rotary sieve 4 having its axis in a vertical plane passing between the two units, the sieve delivering to the interior of an endless bucket-elevator 5 running in a direction transverse to the line of travel and the bucket-elevator delivering to a receptacle 6 which it passes around, the receptacle 6 having an endless floor 8 and an endless side-wall 14 to assist final-delivery therefrom. The machine is self-propelled and includes topping mechanism 2 operating on the adjacent rows and delivering tops via a conveyer 9 to a lateral conveyer 10 passing through the bucket-elevator and discharging the tops on to the ground previously cleared. The machine has three rear wheels 12, 13 and a pair of steerable front wheels 11.
